Franchise Inspiration....

Since the Topic is Still Franchising, I want to share a local Hero to the Entrepreneurial world.

George Halamandaris opened the fiirst Steers restaurant in the 1960's.
His success story starts in when he and his family moved from Greece in the late 1950's to South Africa .

George didn't have a job and he had to find a need in Johannesburg where he could be of importance.
It came to mind that Johannesburg didn't have an American style steakhouse/restaurant.

George is a very hard worker and very determined.  He opened the first Steers steakhouse in the 1960's.
After achieving a huge success with his steakhouse his son joined him in the 1970's.

Today there are more than 2 000 restaurants across South Africa.  Steers went on to become on of South Africa's fasted growing fast-food chain.  In 1999 a share cost 85 c and the market cap almost reached R 70 million.

This is actually amazing, but come to think about it...it took the Halamandaris family 37 years to reach this success.  It is a lot of hard work and they need a much greater reward.
Nevertheless, well done George Halamandaris!  You are indeed a visionary and an innovator.  You saw a vision that is well accepted in the modern era, not really in the 1950's.

George is a real inspiration.

Franchising....

Why Franchising?
Pick up an Entrepreneur magazine or Fin Week, Be your own boss...all these magazines are looking into the opportunities of buying into franchising.  It is the latest craze.

I really want to take the time this week to look at buying into a franchise.
What does it entitle?  Where do you start?  Who can you trust?  What about taking risks and what about financing?

Today I am looking into the idea of buying a franchise.  There are some big and well known Brands out there; KFC; McDonalds; Mi-Vami; Mr. Video, only to name a few.  The problem with buying into Big Brands is that you will need a lot of cash flow and you will also have to invest a few million.

Unfortunately the average entrepreneur don't have a few million lying around.
The whole idea of buying into a franchise is that the business plan has been tried and tested.  A few businesses with the same business plan and target market made it work, and that wraps a safety net around the idea of risk taking.  The reality is that even though the business has already been trial and error and the currently system the business is running is evidence enough that is is working, puts you a little at ease.

Whether you start your own business from scratch or you decide to buy into a franchise, you are still taking a risk.  The risk taking is not the issue here.  You as an entrepreneur need to make sure whether the risk is worth the taking.

Do your research.  Take some time for yourself.  Write down your ideas, like the sort of business you would be interested in, the hobbies you might want to turn into a business.

Take these ideas and Google possible franchises that correlate with your ideas.
It is very important to keep in mind that this is only the beginning of the process.  The whole idea is to find what you are good at, what you like or dislike and choose your new career option.

The fact that you made the decision to be your own boss gives you the right and the boldness to choose your own destiny, therefore it is very important that you are selfish in your choice.  Meaning that you are going to be in this business (the one you choose) for a few years, hopefully and it is important that you love what you do.

When you enjoy what you do, working hard will be enjoyable and even bearable during the troubled times.

Take the time to decide what you want to do and what you are really interested in.
In the next blog I will be focusing on choosing a target market and making your idea work.

Have a Great week everyone and enjoy finding your ideal business.

Inspiration...Hope...Realisation

All Great Leaders and Entrepreneurs started their road of greatness and success with a glimmer of hope, inspired by a great idea, no matter how big or small the idea might have been, turning it into a reality.

Alexander Graham Bell thought he is onto something...a teacher, scientist and inventor.  Thanks to him we have the amazing capability of communicating with loved ones and open business opportunities. Communication, information and technology broaden our boarders and possibilities as young entrepreneurs.
Scientists call Benjamin Franklin the father of electricity, Rulof Diesel invented the diesel engine, Einstein is known to be the father of physics.

These are only to name a few.  In the modern era we have Donald Trump, Richard Branson, and how can we forget about our own Mark Shuttleworth who is  the founder of the Linux distribution.

No matter who you are, where you are from or whatever your idea might be...with a little inspiration from front runners who followed their dreams to igniting hope and bringing that great dream, idea into realisation.

Now is our time to write the History of tomorrow.  The world is open, within it lies great possibilities, great ideas, but is also needs innovators to call these ideas and dreams into reality.

I have been inspired by the Olympic Games in the month of August, even more so by the Para-Olympics.
Here we have athletes who dedicate their whole lives to greatness, of the hope, even just a glimpse of greatness.
Now imagine being disabled, some in an extreme manner, yet they somehow find the bravery to face every fear, every impossibility, every difficulty and overcome in their own way.  Their hope makes the rest of us, so called mere mortals, to be inspired, to give our dreams another shot, to aim for greatness, because somewhere in our hearts lie a glimmer of hope with a little inspiration that might become something great.

Who or what is your inspiration...once you have found that you give your dream hope and your greatness might just be within reach.

Go chase your dreams!
